LALAL.AI Review (2026)
An AI audio stem separation service that splits recordings into vocals, instruments and other isolated tracks.
- Best for
- Producers, podcasters and video editors needing clean stems
- Pricing model
- Subscription from $7.50/mo, plus top-ups
- Free option
- Yes — 10 minutes on Starter
- Deployment
- Web app, desktop app, API
Quick verdict
LALAL.AI does one narrow job to a high standard. Stem separation quality is among the best available to non-specialists, and the pay-per-minute model means occasional users are not pushed into a subscription. Everything beyond separation is out of scope, and the copyright responsibility for what you process sits entirely with you.
- Choose it if
- You need to isolate vocals or instruments from finished audio and want quality without a studio workflow.
- Skip it if
- You need a full DAW, mastering or editing suite — this is a single-purpose utility.

What LALAL.AI does
LALAL.AI separates a mixed audio file into individual stems: vocals, instrumental, drums, bass, guitar, piano and other components depending on the selected model.
It also provides voice cleaning to strip background noise and music from speech recordings, which is the feature most useful to podcasters and video editors working with imperfect source audio.
Processing happens in the cloud with a web interface, a desktop application for batch work, and an API for programmatic use. Minutes are consumed based on audio duration processed.
Core capabilities
- Multi-stem separation including vocals, drums, bass, guitar and piano
- Voice cleaner for removing noise and music from speech
- Batch processing via desktop application
- API access for automated workflows
- Multiple quality and model options
- Wide format support for input and output
- Preview before spending processing minutes
Who it suits
It suits music producers preparing remixes, karaoke tracks or samples from finished recordings.
It suits podcasters and video editors salvaging speech recorded in imperfect conditions.
It is irrelevant to anyone needing composition, arrangement or full mixing capability.
How pricing works
LALAL.AI’s pricing has changed shape, and the change is worth understanding before you buy. It is now subscription-led, and the idea at its centre is two queues: a Relaxed Queue that processes when capacity allows, and a Fast Queue that processes immediately.
| Plan | Price | Relaxed Queue | Fast Queue | Extras |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | Free | 10 minutes | — | 200 MB per file |
| Lite | $7.50/mo or $90/yr | Unlimited | 90 min/month | 2 GB per file |
| Pro | $15/mo or $180/yr | Unlimited | 250 min/month | API, VST plugin |
The part that changes the decision: on any paid plan, Relaxed Queue processing is unlimited. The minutes you are really buying are Fast Queue minutes — that is, speed. So for someone who can wait for results, Lite at $7.50 a month is effectively unlimited separation. You only need Pro if you need results fast at volume, want the API, or work inside a DAW with the VST plugin.
If you need a burst of fast processing without a subscription, one-time top-ups run from 750 minutes for $50 to 5,000 minutes for $300.

Strengths
- Separation quality is strong for a consumer-accessible tool
- Pay-per-minute avoids forcing a subscription on occasional users
- Voice cleaner is genuinely useful for imperfect speech recordings
- Desktop batch processing suits larger jobs
- API enables automated pipelines
Limitations
- Single-purpose tool with no editing or mixing capability
- Quality varies with the density and mastering of source material
- Minutes consumed even when results disappoint
- Cloud processing means uploading material you may not own
- Copyright responsibility for processed audio rests entirely with you
Alternatives to consider
| Alternative | Consider it when |
|---|---|
| Moises.ai | The closest direct rival — stem separation aimed at musicians, with practice tools built around it |
| Spleeter | You are technical and would rather run separation yourself — open-source and free |
| AudioShake | You need separation at professional or catalogue scale rather than track by track |
| iZotope RX | Your real problem is repair and cleanup, not splitting a mix into stems |
Frequently asked questions
Is it legal to separate stems from commercial music?
Separating audio you do not own may infringe copyright depending on jurisdiction and intended use. Personal study is treated differently from distribution or commercial release. The tool provides no rights to the underlying recording, and the responsibility is yours.
How good is the separation quality?
Strong for most well-mastered material, with artefacts more likely on dense mixes or heavily compressed recordings. The free Starter plan’s 10 minutes exist precisely so you can test on your own material.
Do unused minutes expire?
Fast Queue minutes do not roll over — unused ones are lost at the end of each month. Relaxed Queue processing does not run out at all on paid plans, since it is unlimited. So the only minutes you can waste are the fast ones. Checked on LALAL.AI’s pricing page on 22 September 2026.
Is there an API?
Yes, but only on the Pro plan at $15 a month — it is not included on Lite. It suits programmatic and batch processing for studios and production teams handling volume.
